Kirby to Assume New Role Effective Immediately

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Joe Biden has announced the appointment of John Kirby as the new National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Strategic Communications. Kirby, who has served as the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs and chief spokesperson for the Pentagon since 2021, will assume his new role effective immediately.

In his new capacity, Kirby will lead the NSC's strategic communications efforts and serve as the primary spokesperson for U.S. national security policy. He will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies to inform the American public and the international community about the administration's national security priorities and actions.

Kirby brings a wealth of experience in government communications and public affairs to the role. Prior to joining the Biden administration, he served as the spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He has also held senior communications positions at the Department of Defense and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
